John Mooney was born 10 January 1794. He was married to Rachel McCleery who was born on 5 February 1795. In October of 1824, John disappeared from his home in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and was never seen again. He was believed to have been killed by Indians.

John Mooney was born 20 April 1824, in New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio to John and Rachel Mooney. On 19 October 1851, John married Sillener Truax at the home of Silleners parents near New Philadelphia, Ohio. Sillener was born on 16 January 1834 in Virginia to Ruliff Truax and Sarah Axton Truax.

Sarah Jane Mooney, born 25 August 1857 in Clarinda, Page County, Iowa, to John and Sillener Mooney, was married at Glasco, Cloud County, Kansas, on 19 January 1876, at age 18, to 34-year-old David Weaver Anderson, who had been born on 1 February 1841, in Cassville, Monongalia County, West Virginia, to Alfred Anderson and Mary Ann Dolby Anderson. Sarah Jane was David's second wife.
